Home Readers – Children bring home a Home Reading Book everyday.  The box that they choose from is equivalent to the school reading level that they are on, but this means that some books may be very easy and some very hard.  Don’t worry!  The Home Reader is to make sure that all children have a selection of books to read at home.  Children should learn to enjoy books, and it does not matter if they cannot read the book.  Sharing a book at bedtime with an adult, talking about the story and pictures will encourage your child to enjoy books.  Although these books are supplied, it does not mean that you cannot read more widely with your child.  I learnt to read because my mother would not allow me to watch TV unless I could tell her what was on and what time it started.  I learnt to read the Radio Times very quickly!
